Spring 1:

An Introduction to the Humanities, Pt. 2 - The Medieval Era & the Renaissance

A survey course that highlights the major accomplishments of humankind in the areas of art, architecture, music, dance, drama and literature as well as an understanding of some of the major philosophical themes and issues that tie these areas together within a historical, chronological framework to encourage aesthetic and intellectual appreciation.

Note: Attendance in Pt. 1 not required for Pt. 2.

Week 1: Early Christianity: Signs, Symbols, Artifacts, Music.
Week 2: The Medieval Context: Philosophy and Architecture.
Week 3: Medieval Art, Manuscripts, Music, Theatre and Dance.
Week 4: Renaissance Context: Philosophy, Literature, Theatre, and Science.
Week 5: Renaissance Sculpture, Architecture, and Manuscripts.
Week 6: Renaissance Painting, Music, Dance.

Spring 2:

An Introduction to the Humanities, Pt. 3 - The Baroque and Classical Periods

A survey course that highlights the major accomplishments of humankind in the areas of art, architecture, music, dance, drama and literature as well as an understanding of some of the major philosophical themes and issues that tie these areas together within a historical, chronological framework to encourage aesthetic and intellectual appreciation.

Note: Attendance in Pts. 1 and 2 not required for Pt 3.

Week 1: Context, Baroque Philosophy, and Baroque Art.
Week 2: Baroque Art and Architecture, and Baroque Music.
Week 3: Baroque Music, Theatre and Dance.
Week 4: Context, The Classical Period, Philosophy, Literature, Science.
Week 5: Classical Sculpture, Architecture, Music.
Week 6: Classical Music, Theater, Dance.
