Medical Spanish Program

The Medical Spanish Program is designed for health care workers who would like to increase their competence in Medical Spanish. The focus of the program is to provide an opportunity for participants to develop the language skills required to work with Spanish speaking patients effectively.

Program Information

About the Program

Classes provide intensive practice with Spanish vocabulary, interviews, and specialized basic terminology used in the medical field. Classes will focus on topics such as patient intake, case history, patient interviews, physical examinations, and diagnosis. These themes will allow participants to learn necessary vocabulary while learning essential grammar.

The program is divided into Beginner through Intermediate levels and participants must take a language assessment test.

Tuition

The price for the evening course is $1,150.

Course Format

The course is offered synchronously on Zoom two evenings per week for eight weeks. The course is offered several times throughout the year.

The course is also offered in an intensive 5-day format for new residents and fellows at Jackson Health System in June.

Language Assessment

Students are asked to take an online language proficiency test to determine their level. The online test has two parts:

You will gain the confidence to work with Spanish-speaking patients. By the end of the program, you will have an expanded vocabulary for working with patients and you will have a sense of the cultural context of working with patients from Spanish-speaking countries.
