Conflicting Moments in Art

Course Description: During the course of history there have been many times when Art has shifted because of different social, political, economic or personal circumstances. We will address some of those moments, including examples of conflicts that happened between the artists themselves.

Week 1: Brunelleschi and Ghiberti: How the Renaissance began.

Week 2: Savonarola and Botticelli: the pursuit of Beauty.

Week 3: Michelangelo and Leonardo: The competition of two geniuses.

Week 4: Vincent van Gogh and Gauguin: a passionate affair.

Week 5:  Klimt, his Jewish patrons and the Nazi loot.

Week 6: Matisse and Picasso: Friendship and Rivalry.
