Beginning French, Pt. 5

Course Description: This course further builds writing, reading, listening and speaking skills with a pragmatic approach to empower language learners to communicate in French when traveling to a French-speaking country or territory. Students will acquire tools to communicate in a variety of everyday settings and situations.

Texts: Learn French The Fast and Fun Way, by Elisabeth Bouquin Leete and Theodore Kendris, Ph.D.; French Grammar for Beginners, by Frederic Bibard.
   
Both books are available on Amazon at about $20 each.

Weeks    Topics
Week 1    Le grand magasin et la pharmacie -- Going shopping at a department store and a pharmacy requires cultural knowledge as well as specific vocabulary, all of which will be covered this week.
Week 2    La blanchisserie et la teinturerie -- Going to the laundromat or the dry cleaners may be a need while in a French-speaking country; dealing with it effectively will be addressed this week.
Week 3    Le salon de beauté et chez le coiffeur pour hommes -- Making an appointment at the beauty salon or the barber shop and communicating on particular needs will be learned this week.  
Week 4    Le kioske à journaux et la papeterie -- The newspaper stand and the stationery shop are at the heart of the French culture, and they are about more than newspapers and stationery paper.   
Week 5    La bijouterie et l'horlogerie -- Going to the jewelry or the watchmaking shop brings feelings of pleasure and learning to communicate needs and wants at these shops is this week's goal.
Week 6    La technologie -- Immersing in the world of technology is a new challenge to be met in a foreign language. Oh la la!!!
