Course Description

Come learn how to quickly and expertly make beautiful jewelry in this introduction to jewelry design class. Students will be guided to transform simple materials into meaningful & wearable art they can enjoy at the end of each class. Use beads, wire, paper & copper sheet to blend creativity and craftsmanship. You will learn how to finish beaded necklaces, wire wrap & use pliers, and use stamps & hammers to create texture on copper. You will be guided step-by-step in each technique with demos and presentations, but you will have creative rein to follow your inspiration and create something exciting.
 
No prior experience is necessary. Advanced artists are welcome. Feel free to bring relevant materials and reading glasses. Let's use your imagination!

Note: A $35.00 materials fee paid to the instructor covers the cost of the class materials. All experience levels welcome.


Week 1:    Intro: Understand how jewelry sits on the body. Create large & light wearable art. Paper, pipe cleaners, & beads. Share projects.
Week 2:    Create beaded strung jewelry - Necklaces & bracelets. Share projects.
Week 3:    Wire wrapping with pliers and beads. Rings, earrings, pendants, bracelets. Share projects.
Week 4:    Wire wrapping with pliers and beads. Using a drill to twist and add sea glass and found objects. Share projects.
Week 5:    Texturing & hammering copper; Adding patina, cabochon stones, and found objects into projects.
Week 6:    Continue with copper projects. Wrap up any unfinished projects. Share projects and feedback.
